Detox

I started a caffeine detox Sunday. I slammed my last Americano right before I walked into Jury (a panel of industry judges come in to critique our collections and ultimately decide what passes to go onto the runway.) It was good. (the Americano and Jury for that matter)

Why? Well I always drink coffee, but for the past four weeks, I've almost become a little espresso bean. Sometimes, you know, you just feel the need to restart, clean it up, cleanse. However, that's not always fun.. and definitely not as fun as a quad Americano... definitely not. I digress.

Day One: Woke up with a headache and took some Advil.
Day Two: Really wanted a coffee.. drank a flat Sprite instead.
Day Three: (Today) Really not doin all that bad.
haha! just kidding. I had to be awake enough to take the picture duh!

Worst part: I'm tired...at like 1:00 in the afternoon and I've got stuff to do. That's hard.

I do have to say I've done much better than I thought I would. I spent six hours in the dark room today without a lick of caffeine and I didn't fall over.
My favorite photo from the dark room today...Meet Mona

So now I guess I just have to decide how long this detox needs to last. I've been drinking lots of water and telling myself that will wake me up.

I would like to go a whole day with the same amount of energy I have when I am drinking coffee.  I haven't really set a length of time on this detox, but I didn't get a headache today :)

Are you doing any kind of a detox right now? If so, why, and how's it working for you?

Anyways, I'm hoping to get together all my Natural Fabric Dyeing notes soon and make a conclusion post to my whole project. Just what I learned and what I'd do different.

Thank you for reading!

My Unfaithfulness

So... I've been a little unfaithful to my blog lately... but it's not by choice! I've been so busy. I know we're all busy... but I'm creeping on overwhelmed. If I had the funds, I'd hire an assistant.

But...

I just so happen to have had an awesome last 48 hours of productivity so I decided to reward myself with a little blog time. I like blogging. I like sharing things that make me happy... and even if I'm not getting that much of a response, I'm getting some and it makes it worth it.

I've been absent.. but it's been exciting.

My life in photographs

Always something beautiful happening at Momma's
Found the perfect occasion to wear this vintage jacket I picked up in NY for Mardi Gras
Taught my new friend Aja how to serge and use a machine. I think she's going to get a machine! Yay for teaching people how to sew. We started off with some euro shams and she's a natural!
Celebrating my friend Kaitlyn's Birthday at Cartoons in a sweet, blue VIP room. I never even knew the place was so big!
I deep cleaned the house because my parents came to visit me and I ended up stealing this corner rack from the bathroom to make a sweet reading nook in my room. So cozy! If only I had time to read all my books.... most are not even mine. They're the libraries.. they're way overdue! opps.
Where I spend most of my time, making a mess in the studio. See that calendar hanging on the wall? I received that free from Conde Nast in the mail the other day. What a sweet surprise in return for all the magazines I subscribe to. I like it!
My machine looking all creepy.. but she's not. She's actually very sweet. This was taken from me laying on the couch taking a break.
Having fun with a new camera app.. you like? I fall in love with my phone all over again on a regular basis.
I miss these girls dearly. I think I might have already posted this on here... but I liked the filter effect and.. well yea, I miss them.
But.. thankfully I have some lovely ladies here in Springfield that keep me sane when I'm not at home.
I realized after I looked at this picture for a while I spelled her name wrong.. opps.. she still loves me anyways.
Currently, I'm super obsessed with Florence Welch and Florence and the Machine. Specifically Drumming Song and Cosmic Love. On Repeat. I think she's simply amazing.. and it doesn't hurt that she wears the most beautiful clothing. Truly an artist.

Teach Abroad update:
My background check came in the mail. I didn't open it for like a week, not because I was nervous of the results or anything, just because how awful would it be to have waited this long for it, open it, and then find out it needs to be in the original sealed envelope. But tonight my dad called me and told me just to open it... so I did.

No record of arrests for this girl!
I couldn't remember of any anyways so this just confirms that.
So now I just need to get my butt in gear, fill the application out, and get on the laundry list of things I need to gather for it. I need an assistant I tell you.

I've got to get some sleep...I hear birds chirping and it's daylight savings time...and not the good one.. uhhhh. At least that means more sunlight in the studio from here on!

Thanks for comin' back!

Big hair never hurt anyone

As I'm waiting for my coffee to brew, I thought I'd just say a little somethin' somethin'.

Today I worked, and then jet set off to take a little test MO State likes to call an Assessment Exam.

You gotta take it to graduate and it reflects how far you've come since you entered.

About this morning I started to wonder if this test was going to tell me I've actually lost brain power since my arrival...

Then I sat down in the class room and realized my shirt was on backwards. Thats right... fashion girl can't even realize when her neckline is too high.. and that's because it's supposed to be in the back. Then I was thankful I put on a clean shirt, otherwise there'd be a chance I'd have food stains in the middle of my back... not that I'm that messy of an eater, but... I considered to do one of the magical put your left arm through the right side and flip really quick maneuvers, but I decided against since I'd never met any of those people before.
at least it wasn't inside out

I decided to just put my jacket back on. It was chilly in there anyways.. and I like to be warm, cozy and ready for a nap when I take tests that require me to read an over worded paragraph with words I never use and then analyze it. Speaking of run on sentences.... ha take that exit exam!

So, since we all know about my profound writing skills, you can only imagine that I had a blast taking this test. Oh, it included Math too.

Now why can't it just ask me about stitch and seam classifications and why the shirt of the girl sitting next to me doesn't fit her?
I didn't really look at anyone like this... actually there was a guy next to me. This is all hypothetical.

Anyways, my coffee is brewed to where it can brew no more. Time for me to knock out four garments before 2:00 tomorrow. I love last minute.

Oh yea, and the main reason for this post, is to let you know.. I'm back to big hair.

Have a glorious evening.

Tuesday, Shmoozday

Lately, I'm only figuring out the wrong way to do things... I'm hoping for great success tomorrow!

Tonight though, I'm giving it one last shot to bust out some work..
I've got two looks I'm redesigning with these fabrics
I need to catch up on my reading material and ripping pages.
I'm listening to some Dave
and trying to figure out who to trust now that "The Organic Elite Surrenders to Monsanto." Sheesh.

Get some rest tonight, tomorrow could be the biggest day of your life!

Graduation Anxiety?? Anyone?

As college graduations take place all around us, I cant help but realize that I too will be graduating soon. Oh how I have been yearning to throw on those luxurious polyester gowns.
But wait, the last time I had one of those on, I had a plan, I had money, I even had ease of mind.

But what’s this I notice, anxiety, nervousness?… Possibly, even though I don’t like to admit it. Ever since I walked out of my last final, I can’t help but be anxious about the next few years of my life.
Of course, I have been warned about all the disappointing events that might occur to me after I graduate, but after being warned, I am determined to do everything in my power to not let those things happen to me. But can I do it? I question myself.

Everything is different this time.
I have a plan, but its not secure, and its not guaranteed it’s the best plan.
I don’t have money

And my ease of mind is stirred, not shaken.
(shown above is the outward expression of a hurting brain)
I can feel comfortable to assume I am not the only one feeling this heat.
Here are a few things I try and remind myself. Advice (for what it’s worth) to those who are experience these same thoughts…
1. do not lose sight of the dream
2. do not settle
3. do not take the easy route, you have to at least try what you’re scared of.
4. live in the present
5. be excited about the future
6. prepare yourself for the opportunities that are about to come your way
7. try replacing “I wish” or  “I want” with “I am going to” or “I will”
I think 7’s enough.
Ok 8 and it might be the most important
8. keep only positive spirits around you, make time for them, cherish and love them, because it is their company that will keep you sane.
My personal little basket of joy.
Happy Holidays!
Up next, pictures of my most recent work... an Elf Costume!
