Sychronicity

Two nights ago I worked a party at The Savoy for their 1 year anniversary. The Savoy is here on C-st. They give dancing lessons and it's also an event center. Super beautiful inside.
I handed out Big Momma's sandwiches and brownies... yea brownies still warm from the oven. I had the most popular table in the house.
(hard to see, but those are nearly empty trays of sandwich quarters)
But then something amazing happened after all the dancing and eating was drawing to a close. Bella Donna (only my favorite local band ever) started playing the song from Triplets of Belleville (only one of my favorite movies ever). It was so much fun!
This is when I experienced synchronicity.
What's that mean? Well it's defined as this:
I found this moment in time to be pretty cool. It was a perfect close to a long day of sewing. It's weird how things happen, you know?
Just thought I'd share. Be on the look out for something magical to happen to you this week!

Playful

Just had to show you,
Look how cute Grace is...
I love these photos, they kinda make my day. Aww I miss my Grace!
To see more on Grace's skirt go here.

Hope you're having a great day so far. Christiano said he would take to me the Kettle for breakfast. Now, I'm just waiting for him to get up and resisting any food in the kitchen. After that, I'm sewing all day long. I have the day off and I'm about to make a Huge mess!

Lot's of love,
Missy

Happy Time Photo Thing #2

I started this photo installment on Sponge Doll a bit ago and I'm so excited to share these next few photos with you.

This is one of the millions of beautiful memories I shared with my bestie, Erin.
We had picked up some food from our favorite food vendor (yes we made a solid relationship with a food vendor within a few days) and were taking a rest to chow. While we were sitting on the steps of Broadway, where Chicago is currently playing, we saw the cutest woman walk out of her home. As I was admiring her dress, we watched as she was helped across the street by the hostess from the restaurant she lives above.
She moved slow as molasses. It was really cute.
It's little things like these that are so refreshing to see.

I wonder what she was up to that day.
And why she crossed just to plop down on some dirty steps.
I will always love this memory.

Remember you can submit you photos too.. if you want :)

Thanks for taking a peek!

Missing you...

wow,
I'm really not good at blogging on vacation.
Between unstable internet connections and the city, my blogging has really taken a back seat even though I've thought about it everyday. I started out with such good intentions.

I've missed my computer (and Christiano).

Anyways, just wanted to pop in a say hello. We're off to yoga, can't believe our week here is almost over. I'll be back later this week once I get back into my normal schedule. Can't wait to share highlights of our week!

Of course I wouldn't leave you without at least a few photos. From the hundreds, here are a few that have me flipping out.
Now, get some breakfast, drink some coffee and have a great Monday!
Love and miss you!

Word: Magnificent

You know how sometimes you have so-so weeks, and then you have really good weeks, and then you have seriously magnificent weeks?
I do!! (hand raised)

It starts with a bike ride...
Baking Perfect cookies.. with a capital P.
Baking Ooey Gooey -Berry- Butter Cake
Fresh flowers in the studio
Fresh flowers everywhere!
Soo's Korean.. oh my gahh.
yea, I said it.
Photos that crack me up...
I call this one "Baby Boomer's Search for Tip Calculator on Foreign Technology"
I call this one "Caution: Tight Jeans Cause Exhaustion"
Dishes that are 90% Feta Cheese!
Hearing that people love my garments and that Grace is rockin' her skirt!
Seeing bags in stores that I helped work on at Yak Pak (I interned here!)
Spotted at Hasting's.
New obsession.. Pinterest. Seriously.
Find me if you're pinning too!
And the best news of all... This handsome boy is getting adopted on Tuesday!!!! I get to baby sit him one more night.. take him to the vet for a booster shot and then he gets to go home with his new family from Joplin. I'm so happy for Mr. Kipper!!!

I watched a documentary the other day and the people in it were from England. They kept saying the word "Magnificent." And of course, in that british accent it sounded.. well, magnificent. It's been running through my brain all week. I think it's a lovely word.

So anyways, I hope you have a magnificent week, you dashing thing you!
Thanks a bunch for checking in on me!
Missy

I just realized nearly 30% of what I consider to be a wonderful week revolves around food that I'm excited enough about to photograph. ha!

Good Thoughts

This morning Christiano and I decided to grab lunch at Cooks Kettle right across the street from where I live. It's a culinary school for people who have previously been addicts and are clean now but need a place to start, get an education and learn a trade. They have to follow strict rules to be allowed to stay in the program, but the end result is seven certifications that are recognized by the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation. They serve breakfast and a lunch buffet... anyways this is not a post about the Kettle, although very good.

While I was waiting to get my food in line I our friend Gill popped up in line too. He sat down to lunch with us and we got to talking religion and life in general. Gill always says something that keeps me thinking hours later, but today he said something that really struck me. He said "Really, what it's all about is realizing the moment that you are in right now. The place you are right now in your life and what's around you." And while I've heard and thought about this before, sometimes a reminder is just what I need.

So as I sat there listening to him talk I noticed the sun outside, the life on C-st driving by. Christiano to my right. A full plate of food in front of me. I had a beautifully colored sundress on and I'm living in good health. I was sitting there with Gill, who I admire, with my homework printed out and sitting on the table, reminding me of the new adventure I'm preparing for.
Life is so beautiful.

While it is so easy to hold onto the things that are wrong in this world and people who have done me wrong, I have to be thankful for all that is right. And, I have to be thankful for the people who remind me of the that.

So whether you feel like responding to this post in the comment box or not, I hope that reading this helps you to take a look at the life you live and see the good surrounding you. I hope you see the good inside of you.

I am 22 years old, I just graduated from college and I'm on a mission to see what the other side of the world looks like. I have a loving family, friends and boyfriend. I laugh everyday and I have more than I need. I see beautiful things everyday and I feel connected to the Earth around me.

Words do not give enough credit to how thankful I am to be right where I am, right now.
Love the everyday,
Missy

Inspiration Overload

These past few days I've been really inspired by nature, love and of course my magazines.

I just realized it's Monday again and I'm finding myself seriously stoked about new things I've found. This could be a trend?
Butterflys are always special.
The plant might be a weed, but I think they're quite beautiful.
I love the way this fades to pink and I'm absolutely dying over the speckles of dark pink in the petals.
The shade was bliss today. Thank you, trees.
This is at the nature center.
LOVE
(my mom and dad at the zoo)

New ads ruled my Ripping Pages marathon tonight. I found a few other things but these ones excited me the most :)
Ah, I want to feel this fabric so bad.. Looks amazing.
I'm loving the wide seam allowance for the topstitches. It definitely works for this weight.
This just made my day.
New Marc Jacobs ad. I always love the photography and I love her two different gloves.
Someone said she was panting like a dog, but I think she's a magic half of a body that's hissing in a crackled voice trying to crawl out of a table. And thats the magic of a photo...

I have so much more to share with you! I'll be back soon with more beautiful things from my weekend.
Thanks for reading.

Have an inspiring Monday,
Missy

From the Garden

Neighbor and friend Gill brought us some fresh mint from his garden tonight..
 it smells so crisp!
Hmm. Now what can I use this for? It has to be something very special!
My friend just told me that I can dry the leaves out to make tea and it's good for your digestive system.
I might make a face cleanser out of some of the bruised ones after a while.  I read an article and it said that I can place the leaves in a quart size pan of cool water, then refrigerate. Not sure how much water or what will happen, but I think I'll definitely try that out.

So kind that Gill

It makes me think of my lavender plant last summer... ahhhh happy memories.

Good night,  Missy

Hi Stranger

This just made my day...
I love soap and I love buttons. I'm starting to really like Mondays. Oops I guess "technically" (please say with finger quotes) it's Tuesday, but I haven't woken up for Tuesday yet.. am I making any sense?

So, I know I kinda fell off the face of the blogging planet... but did anyone notice? For those of you kind souls who might have, well, you are just too sweet.

I haven't really been gone though, more like taking a step back to realize what I'm doing here, what is possible, bloggers I admire, and what I want this blog to be. I'm so excited to be back. I missed this place. I think I might get my groove thing going on here :)
Stay tuned.

Good night, Missy

Kittens and Kiddos

Hi
just wanted to share some of my favorite recent photos of things that basically made my day...

I got to spend some time with these two hams during a fitting earlier this week. I loved their energy! It was like a refresh button in the middle of my long day of being in the studio. You know what I mean?

Look at this little baby girl.. her name is Gladys. My roommate brought her home the other day. Can I say I'm a proud aunt?
She's beyond adorable and I don't care if you aren't a cat person, this flufferball is enough to make anyone squeal. She's only 10 weeks and still a little clumsy. She's still figuring out the layout of the house, what she can jump through, and what she can jump on. She's had a few bumps here and there and she seems to like all my fabric scraps lying around.

Who doesn't need them some kitten and kiddo action? yea? yea.

My Unfaithfulness

So... I've been a little unfaithful to my blog lately... but it's not by choice! I've been so busy. I know we're all busy... but I'm creeping on overwhelmed. If I had the funds, I'd hire an assistant.

But...

I just so happen to have had an awesome last 48 hours of productivity so I decided to reward myself with a little blog time. I like blogging. I like sharing things that make me happy... and even if I'm not getting that much of a response, I'm getting some and it makes it worth it.

I've been absent.. but it's been exciting.

My life in photographs

Always something beautiful happening at Momma's
Found the perfect occasion to wear this vintage jacket I picked up in NY for Mardi Gras
Taught my new friend Aja how to serge and use a machine. I think she's going to get a machine! Yay for teaching people how to sew. We started off with some euro shams and she's a natural!
Celebrating my friend Kaitlyn's Birthday at Cartoons in a sweet, blue VIP room. I never even knew the place was so big!
I deep cleaned the house because my parents came to visit me and I ended up stealing this corner rack from the bathroom to make a sweet reading nook in my room. So cozy! If only I had time to read all my books.... most are not even mine. They're the libraries.. they're way overdue! opps.
Where I spend most of my time, making a mess in the studio. See that calendar hanging on the wall? I received that free from Conde Nast in the mail the other day. What a sweet surprise in return for all the magazines I subscribe to. I like it!
My machine looking all creepy.. but she's not. She's actually very sweet. This was taken from me laying on the couch taking a break.
Having fun with a new camera app.. you like? I fall in love with my phone all over again on a regular basis.
I miss these girls dearly. I think I might have already posted this on here... but I liked the filter effect and.. well yea, I miss them.
But.. thankfully I have some lovely ladies here in Springfield that keep me sane when I'm not at home.
I realized after I looked at this picture for a while I spelled her name wrong.. opps.. she still loves me anyways.
Currently, I'm super obsessed with Florence Welch and Florence and the Machine. Specifically Drumming Song and Cosmic Love. On Repeat. I think she's simply amazing.. and it doesn't hurt that she wears the most beautiful clothing. Truly an artist.

Teach Abroad update:
My background check came in the mail. I didn't open it for like a week, not because I was nervous of the results or anything, just because how awful would it be to have waited this long for it, open it, and then find out it needs to be in the original sealed envelope. But tonight my dad called me and told me just to open it... so I did.

No record of arrests for this girl!
I couldn't remember of any anyways so this just confirms that.
So now I just need to get my butt in gear, fill the application out, and get on the laundry list of things I need to gather for it. I need an assistant I tell you.

I've got to get some sleep...I hear birds chirping and it's daylight savings time...and not the good one.. uhhhh. At least that means more sunlight in the studio from here on!

Thanks for comin' back!

Your doll,
Missy
