Top 10 Favorite Places in Springfield Part 2

Hi again!
Came back for part two I see? Yeeaaa! hey, thanks.

Ok so let's get on with it because I'm really excited about these places.

6. Soo's Korean
(3644 S. Campbell)
You. Just. Gotta. Go
Sooooo Good. (did any one get that? eh yea, I know it was cheap)

7. Sewing Machine's Express
(3650 S. Campbell)
I love these ladies. They're all so nice and helpful. They always fix my machine :)
Oh and did you notice how close they are to Soo's? A coincidence? I think not. They saw me comin'. Hook line and sink 'er!

8. The Moxie
(431 S. Jefferson #108)
Ok you've seen the logo, but have you been?
We don't go here often enough, but that makes each time we do go really special. I like the cozy theaters and the fact you can order a beer here. Oh yea, and the independent films. :)
9. Akins Natural Foods
(1344 E. Battlefield)
yea, mama jeans is cool and all, but I love Akins. As things run out, I'm slowly purchasing more and more natural products for my home. The staff really knows their stuff and I appreciate that. (this is not solely a Springfield treasure; it's a chain. But, it totally makes the cut and had to be on this list. Plus, I've never been to another one, therefore they do not exist. Kidding)
These are two things that are on my Akins Wish List:
Cast Paper: You send a card to someone, they plant the card, flowers bloom. Bam! Amazing.
Bach Oils: Still learning about them, but they seem like a nice alternative to medicine.

10. Japanese Stroll Gardens
(2400 S. Scenic Dr)
So beautiful, so serene. I love going here to see the wonderful landscaping and feed coy fish.  Does anyone know if the meditation garden is complete yet?
Seriously, out of all my favorites, if you haven't been here you really need to go. It is exquisite. Absolutely Lovely.

So that wraps my Top Ten Favorite Places in Springfield up! If you missed it, you can go here to see Part 1.
If you're not living here, I hope you can make it this way and stop by to enjoy some of these establishments. I visit them all the time and they really make my living experience a lovely one.

Thanks for coming to see my favs!

 Happy Days!

Top 10 Favorite Places in Springfield Part 1

I've been thinking a lot about moving lately, and I've been thinking about how I should absorb all that I can of the places I love in Springfield before I leave. I know all I can do is think about how I miss the city and I'm ready to get out, but I know one day, I will miss Springfield.

Here is my 5-year curated list of the places I adore the most in the 417:

1. FM Store
(Sunshine and Fremont)
Warning: This might happen to you if you spend too much time in there! (This is only part of my stash) Not saying that's a bad thing, just saying.
You have to go in here ready to dig. You have to like digging... and most of us fabric addicts do... so it's pretty wonderful.
2. Springfield Leather Company
(1463 S. Glenstone)
I seriously flipped out the first time I went in here. One side is all leather and skins, the other side is a jewelery maker's haven. Seriously. Knowledgeable staff, I've learned a lot from them. No photo here, but I promise, it will be a feast for your eyes once you get there. Oh, and hands... lot's of great textures!

3. Nature Center
(4601 South Nature Center Way)
Christiano and I love to go here together. This is one of my favorite memories of a walk we took last fall.
Once I went there and it looked closed because it was winter, but I saw a woman walk in around the gate, so I followed. Then I ran into a man and asked him if we weren't supposed to be in here and he said, "Oh no, it's perfectly fine!" He's been doing it for years. People just have to know there is no one working at the time. So if that happens to you, just walk on in. It's a beautiful place.

4. Good Girl Art
(325 E. Walnut St #101)
So much fun! It was here that I saw the first painting that ever made me cry. And, last week I found this sweet hamburger purse. Oh, did I mention they hand out free wine during First Friday Art Walk? It's kind of spectacular.

5. Whistler's
(208 W. McDaniel St)
There's also one in Carthage, MO too!

I get a Turkey burger and Veggie, Christiano likes the double sow and cow and just the regular double cheeseburger. Really tasty, really fast, open late, and super affordable. PLUS they now have fries,
and an upstairs dining area with A/C.
Whistler's is gettin' fancy!

From the looks of it, I mainly just get excited about burgers... :)
Not really though, just Whistler's and purses that look like them.

Tomorrow I'll have five more places for you!
If you're in the area, what's your favorite "can pretty much only get in Springfield" place?

Have a great evening! I'm going to indulge in some frozen liquor drinks here in a bit with a few other mad sewers! Wouldn't you like to be at that table?! haha I can't wait!

Love,
Missy

Bike Errands

I love running errands on my bike. I of course just love riding, but when Christiano and I set out with a purpose it's like a double whammy! Productive and leisurely.

Yesterday I had business to do at the post office.
2. Mail a White Bark Hill bag
3. Buy Stamps

I always like to wear something cute when riding my bike because.. why not?

I found this really cute hair tutorial and so I decided to try it out. Here's what I came up with as my riding hair piece.
This is my shower curtain behind me... I already got tired of the plain white so I decided to hang some of my grandma's scarves to add color. It makes me really happy.. for now at least :)
Decided to ditch the glasses for some photos.
I thought it was maybe a little too tall for bike riding. I envisioned my hair doing something like Marge Simpson's flying back in the wind so I revised a bit before we set out.
Works for Marge, not so much for me.
Here are some photos from our ride...
Self photo taken while Christiano puts air in my tires
Organization Rules!
I just want to sing when I'm riding sometimes
I had Christiano take lots of photos on me on my bike. I've finally conquered getting on and taking off like a pro (well most of the time) and I'm really proud of it. Ha! It's the little things.
We Made It!
I unfortunately filled these forms out for nothing. First, I have to get a new birth certificate and I can only do that in Jeff City because I'm adopted. (different procedures for that I guess) BUT that's ok because I'm going there this weekend anyways for my friends' wedding shower! Christiano, however, successfully got his along with some pretty rad passport photos.
The sun felt soooo good!
Hope you're having a great day.
Im craving Soo's Korean! later gator!

Good Thoughts

This morning Christiano and I decided to grab lunch at Cooks Kettle right across the street from where I live. It's a culinary school for people who have previously been addicts and are clean now but need a place to start, get an education and learn a trade. They have to follow strict rules to be allowed to stay in the program, but the end result is seven certifications that are recognized by the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation. They serve breakfast and a lunch buffet... anyways this is not a post about the Kettle, although very good.

While I was waiting to get my food in line I our friend Gill popped up in line too. He sat down to lunch with us and we got to talking religion and life in general. Gill always says something that keeps me thinking hours later, but today he said something that really struck me. He said "Really, what it's all about is realizing the moment that you are in right now. The place you are right now in your life and what's around you." And while I've heard and thought about this before, sometimes a reminder is just what I need.

So as I sat there listening to him talk I noticed the sun outside, the life on C-st driving by. Christiano to my right. A full plate of food in front of me. I had a beautifully colored sundress on and I'm living in good health. I was sitting there with Gill, who I admire, with my homework printed out and sitting on the table, reminding me of the new adventure I'm preparing for.
Life is so beautiful.

While it is so easy to hold onto the things that are wrong in this world and people who have done me wrong, I have to be thankful for all that is right. And, I have to be thankful for the people who remind me of the that.

So whether you feel like responding to this post in the comment box or not, I hope that reading this helps you to take a look at the life you live and see the good surrounding you. I hope you see the good inside of you.

I am 22 years old, I just graduated from college and I'm on a mission to see what the other side of the world looks like. I have a loving family, friends and boyfriend. I laugh everyday and I have more than I need. I see beautiful things everyday and I feel connected to the Earth around me.

Words do not give enough credit to how thankful I am to be right where I am, right now.
Love the everyday,
Missy

Kippling

I'm babysitting the most adorable love bug tonight.
His name is Kippling and he's a miniature schnauzer. ahhhh they have my heart!
Kippling (Kipper doodle) is a foster puppy from the Boxer-Schnauzer Rescue of the Ozarks. Connie from TAME Pet Magazine is his foster parent and she is letting me spend some quality time with Kippling tonight.
Look at that face.
When he runs only his right ear flops and he has the cutest behind!
This is us taking a break on his walk tonight.
If you're interested in adopting or have questions, please contact Connie.
Kippling was found as a stray. Still, he's so kind, potty trained and doesn't bother you when you eat food. He doesn't bark much and needs a loving home. Even though I love every minute, I can't help but to feel bad for him being here. I don't want him to keep wondering if this is the place he'll stay for a long time and then it changes. He has good spirits nonetheless. I kinda love him already. I can hear him dreaming as he's sleeping on my leg keeping it warm right now :)I can tell he misses Connie. She's such an amazing pet lover. She's found good homes for nearly 20 rescues. She's kind of a saint right?

Christiano calls him Keeper, isn't that cute? It works though.

Good night lovely people.
In loving memory of Pepper Creed

Now Available-Cleanse Me Spring 2011

I don't know how else to say this, but my garments are being sold at Red Velvet and I really want you to go check them out tell your friends, and maybe even buy something. Here are some shop photos
This is the newest edition to the Cleanse Me Spring 2011 Collection.
It's a crop top made from the lacey knit and soy organic cotton jersey. The knit is the raw color and the jersey is dyed with walnuts. The trim (which is hard to see in the photo) in the middle of the shirt is cotton and dyed with madder root.
I even made a little tube top to go under it so you don't have to worry about finding the right piece to go with it.
I'm really excited to be in Red Velvet. (211 E. Commercial St - Tuesday-Saturday 12-7)  Elsie, the owner, has been an admirable role model for me these past few months and is also a huge inspiration for this blog so it's really an honor to be recognized in her store. These are my first garments under my new brand MOMENTUM so that's really exciting too! If nothing else, just go in there and to shop vintage and handmade. They have the cutest geeky glasses there right now. I am in love with these...
I had absolutely way too much fun finding a way to take photos of these sunglasses. All the photos underneath are from July 2011 W Magaine "Listen Up"
Thank you for your support!

Best Hair Cut Ever...

Ok so I know I cheated on my hairdresser.. and now I'm making it public. But I have to say something about Rod at Blu Styles on C-St. Excellent.
I don't think I've ever had a thinning like Rod's

I asked him if he liked cutting women's hair. His reply was, "I'm not going to say I like it better than cutting men's, but as long as I'm doin' a good job I like it." Perfect answer to hear from the man that's cutting your hair right? What a sweetie!
This is me waiting for my deep conditioner to settle.. or whatever it does, soak I guess. This thing was fun. Couldn't hear a word anyone was saying...dootodoooo

After
Of course, I have to give you after shots.
The man behind the camera

Have a great hair day.
Yo doll,

First Time Gailey's Go-er

in a lil jon voice...."whhaatt! You mean to tell me you've lived in Springfield how long and you've never been to Gailey's?"
This is basically what I said to Christiano when I realized what this breakfast lover had yet to discover.. oh, hey, yea! lover had yet to discover.. ha!
Snug As A Bug In A Rug
From our booth
Can't take credit for this photo. This is all Christiano. I would imagine if he were to add a caption to this one he'd say, "purdy dang good." I would agree.

I guess the lesson of this post is.. if you' haven't been to Gailey's before, get on up and go! I like The Executive.. hey don't judge me. I'm a hungry girl. Not that you were anyways. I'm just talking to myself here after all.. oh I like the Michelle too.

Hey you have a good April fools day.
Another kitten shot because I can't get enough.
